Bless the movie executive who thought of this idea. Not only is '90s television staple Baywatch coming to the big screen, but they've got Zac Efron starring in this bad boy.
The Hollywood Reporter first announced news that the former High School Musical hunk was in talks to star opposite Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in the theatrical version of the television show all about California lifeguards and their sexy red swimsuits. The movie has apparently been in talks for for years, but is finally off the ground with director Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses, ABC comedy The Goldbergs) signing on.
THR added that, "the story centers on a by-the-book and very serious lifeguard (Johnson) who is forced to team up with a young rule-flouting hothead in order to save their beach from environmental destruction at the hands of an oil tycoon." Which sounds great, but aren't we really here to see these actors run around and get drenched in short swim trunks and bikinis? (Don't lie: The answer is yes.)
Johnson and Efron confirmed the news on Twitter today, teasing that the film would be Rated R and baby oil would be involved.
The Baywatch film is set to start film in early 2016, likely in February according to THR. That may be awhile's away, but consider our tickets pre-ordered. Fingers crossed Pamela Anderson and Carmen Electra get a role too.
