Last week, we learned via Variety that Nickeloden was "looking at our library to bring back ideas, shows that were loved, in a fresh new way." Promising, but vague.
Now there's word that a movie starring all your favorite animated '90s Nick stars is in the works. The Tracking Board (which Slashfilm cautiously notes "can be hit or miss with their scoops") writes that "a massive live-action/animated crossover film" is being planned, and that it'll feature the characters of Hey Arnold!, Rugrats, Rocko’s Modern Life, Ren and Stimpy and The Angry Beavers.
The rumored movie's rumored title is Nicktoons. Cited inspirations include The Avengers, The Lego Movie and Wreck-It Ralph. Here's more from the Tracking Board:
Naysayers ought not to fear, as our sources say that the creators have no intentions to bastardize or update the characters unfavorably, only to create a fun adventure reuniting audiences with the treasured cartoons in an exciting new approach, pleasing old fans and creating new ones.
Producer Mary Parent, who worked on this year's The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water as well as Pleasantville and Pacific Rim, is said to be front and center for Nicktoons.
