Meow the Jewels was and is not a joke. Well, maybe to an extent it is, but when Run the Jewels first announced the project to remix their RTJ2 album with cat sounds after a reached Kickstarter goal made it so, it seemed like it was more of a tongue-in-cheek promise that would eventually result in maybe a one-off track rather than a full record.

But as Killer Mike and El-P have shown yet again, Meow the Jewels is real, and the meows are just as advertised.

This week, the rap duo dropped "Oh My Darling Don't Meow," a Just Blaze-helmed remix of RTJ2 standout "Oh My Darling Don't Cry."

The remix strips away a bit of the abrasive edge of the original—and that's in a production sense, too. Not just because of the cat sounds.

"Oh My Darling Don't Meow" follows the earlier release of the cat-laden "Meowrly." Meow the Jewels was originally expected for release sometime this month, though an official date is not nailed down just yet. What a time to be alive.
