Sara Bareilles is following up her GRAMMY Album of the Year-nominated The Blessed Unrest with What's Inside: Songs From Waitress. The new record includes songs included in and inspired by the play she scored about the (excellent) Keri Russell film that hits Broadway next year.
Today, we get to hear one of the two duets on the album that features fellow pop-rock favorite Jason Mraz. "Bad Idea" is centered around the two crooners recounting all the reasons they shouldn't fall in love, and has the exciting feel of a live-stage musical number.
Bareilles explained via a press release the inspiration behind releasing the Waitress songs herself instead of simply letting the Broadway cast handle them:
"I fell more deeply in love with the writing of the musical Waitress than I had ever imagined. It proved impossible for me to imagine handing over the songs to the show before selfishly finding a way to sing them myself. This is a deliciously self-indulgent project and I'm sorry, I'm not sorry."
The What's Inside album will be released on November 6, while previews for the Broadway stage adaptation of Waitress will begin in March 2016.
