Foo Fighters have followed up last year's Sonic Highways album with a free EP, Saint Cecilia, that was released unexpectedly on Sunday night (Nov. 22).
The five-song release was recorded at Austin's Hotel Saint Cecilia in October 2015, and can be streamed or downloaded for free. There is also a pre-order for vinyl copies of the EP, set to ship in February 2016 for $10.99.
In a letter to fans, frontman Dave Grohl writes that the EP has "taken on an entirely different tone" since the Paris terrorist attacks on Nov. 13. "The Saint Cecilia EP was put into motion back in October of this year as a celebration of life and music," he writes. "The concept being that, as our world tour drew to a close this week, we wanted to share our love of both with you in return for everything you have given us.
"Now, there is a new, hopeful intention that, even in the smallest way, perhaps these songs can bring a little light into this sometimes dark world," Grohl continues. "To remind us that music is life, and that hope and healing go hand in hand with song. That much can never be taken away."
Foo Fighters are asking fans to donate to the victims of the Paris attacks in exchange for the free EP. Click here to learn more.
