The X-Files aired for nine seasons, which means a lot of last-minute Netflix cramming for newcomers interested in exploring the show's upcoming event-series revival. Luckily, there's a new 21-minute, behind-the-scenes teaser/re-cap clip – which features commentary from Scully and Mulder themselves, Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, along with the writing-directing team, including creator Chris Carter.
Duchovy says the revival's goal is to carry on the original series' blend of mythology and stand-alone episodes, incorporating elements of horror and humor. However, "The thru-line is [Scully and Mulder] confronting their age and confronting their life choices," says Carter.
And though it's been 13 years since the original series finale, that gap will allow the show to expand their storytelling range. "So much has changed in the world, and The X-Files now gets the chance to tell stories from that perspective," adds producer Darin Morgan.
The X-Files will return January 24 at 10 p.m. EST on Fox, kicking off a two-night event that continues January 25 at 8 p.m. EST.
