Alan Rickman’s passing at the age of 69 has prompted his Harry Potter co-stars, as well as author J.K. Rowling, to post loving tributes to the man on social media.

On Thursday morning (Jan. 14), Rowling called Rickman, who played Professor Severus Snape in all eight Harry Potter films, “a magnificent actor & a wonderful man.” Daniel Radcliffe, who starred as the titular character in the films, described Rickman as a deeply supportive colleague.

“He was so encouraging of me both on set and in the years post-Potter,” Radcliffe wrote. “I’m pretty sure he came and saw everything I ever did on stage both in London and New York. He didn't have to do that.”

Emma Watson, who starred as Hermione Granger, wrote on Facebook, “I'll really miss our conversations. RIP Alan. We love you.”
