Dave Grohl pressed pause on his rock-star life to crash the 88th Academy Awards on Sunday night (Feb. 28), delivering a touching special performance at the Oscars.

Grohl was asked to perform The Beatles' "Blackbird" as the In Memoriam tribute played behind him. Familiar faces like Alan Rickman, Omar Sharif and James Horner flashed on screen as Grohl could be heard warbling the Fab Four classic (which, ironically, touches on race relations in America!).

The Foo Fighters leader stopped by the GRAMMY Awards earlier this month to introduce a tribute performance to Lemmy Kilmister. Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Beck also covered David Bowie at a pre-GRAMMYs gala.
