Elizabeth Banks is mighty morphin’ into an evil role: The actress will play Rita Repulsa, the scourge of the Power Rangers universe, in the upcoming Power Rangers big-screen reboot.
THR reveals that Banks has signed on to play the villain in the ‘90s kids franchise, which is being directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac). A handful of relative unknown actors (including pop singer Becky G, as well as former Disney Channel star Naomi Scott) will play the Rangers themselves.
The Lionsgate project has X-Men: First Class writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stenz onboard as screenwriters.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie was released back in June 1995, and the reboot was announced in 2014. No word on whether Ivan Ooze from the first film is coming back for more.
