Back in 2013, The Flaming Lips announced a plan to release Lip$ha—a collaborative album they recorded with Kesha. It was soon called off for mysterious reasons (fingers pointed to Dr. Luke), but now, as the singer is in the middle of a legal battle against her many-time producer and alleged rapist, the idea may come to fruition once again.

Last night, frontman Wayne Coyne posted a throwback photo on Instagram with the “Timber” star along with the caption, “I will see if Kesha will let us leak the Lip$ha stuff… fuck.. at least ONE song. ... I jus don’t want her to have any MORE troubles because of it."

Before The Flaming Lips' musical relationship with Miley Cyrus, it was Kesha who caught the band's eye, leading to a cameo on 2012 LP The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends). Since then, Coyne has been especially vocal about accusing Dr. Luke of scrapping Lip$ha

In a 2014 interview with Radio.com, Coyne said:

"The stuff that we did together was just spectacular, and it made us want to do more. I think we did like four or five songs, and then Kesha would remind me, ‘Wayne, I can’t put this music out, Dr. Luke will kill me.’ I don’t know Dr. Luke at all, but when we [Kesha and I] speak, I know there’s some anxiety about their relationship. I think she would like to have the freedom to do more things in that spirit. Where it’s not—again, I don’t know their situation—but where it’s not producers producing her. She could produce herself, that’s probably what she is wanting to happen with her own career.”

This affirmation, along with his current willingness to leak the collaborative project, serves as another eye-opening insight to Kesha’s battle with Dr. Luke.
