Happy Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice week, everyone. And that doesn't just mean you'll be seeing the movie this weekend—you'll also be reading about it every single day until then! The latest hot intel comes from Collider, who spoke to director Zack Snyder and learned that two big baddies won't appear in the film, despite having come close. Snyder said:
"The Joker and The Riddler both came close to being in this movie. We talked about the possibility of putting them in. [Screenwriter] Chris Terrio and I talked about it a lot and felt that their mythological presence is felt in the movie and that’s cool, but I didn’t want to get my eye too far off the ball because I needed to spend the time, frankly, with Batman and Superman to understand the conflict."
It's a surprising reveal, considering an explicit trace of the Joker has appeared in several Batman v Superman trailers. Jared Leto's take on the iconic baddie pioneered by Heath Ledger and Jack Nicholson will first appear in August 2016's supervillain posse movie Suicide Squad. The Riddler is not, as far as we know, in the movie.
Even without those big baddies, Batman v Superman will be packed, as it features its titular heroes as well as Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) and Aquaman (Jason Momoa).
