Gunshots were fired into the air in downtown Austin early Sunday morning, sending a large crowd from South by Southwest into a momentary panic as police responded to the incident. 

USA Today reports that a suspect was taken into custody shortly after a gun was recovered around the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Trinity Street near Trinity Hall, a downtown private events center. Austin City Hall tweeted a warning after the incident, advising people stay away from the intersection where shots were fired. 

Local reporters on the scene described the episode as chaotic: 

Thankfully, the Austin Police Department reported that there were no injuries.
