The news of Phife Dawg's death this morning (Mar. 23) caused a stir in the hip-hop world and quickly saw an outpouring of tributes from celebrities. A notable one came from Kendrick Lamar, who honored the A Tribe Called Quest founding member in concert.

K-Dot, who is currently on tour in Australia, included a tribute segment at his Sydney show upon hearing about Phife's passing. The rapper, who has cited ATCQ as a major influence, told the crowd:

"We had a good time tonight, but I need a favor. Today we lost one of the pioneers in hip-hop by the name of Phife Dawg. We gonna give it up for him. He allowed me to do what I’m doing on this stage, right here, right now."

He then began an impassioned "Phife!" chant with the audience before wrapping up by saying "forever, hip-hop, we gonna be alright." Soon after, Kendrick's bombastic "Alright" anthem kicked in. The heartfelt moment gave the song's motivational message an even deeper meaning.
