Last night at a VICE after-party a bunch of all-star musicians performed. One of the night’s noteworthy performances came from Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and Kurt Vile. The two were backed by the house band made up of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Nick Zinner and Brian Chase, TV on the Radio’s Jaleel Bunton, and also producer Money Mark.
They performed a cover of David Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel,” which you can watch above (via Pitchfork). The other performances of the night included Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino covering Tears for Fears, and Butler, Cosentino, Perfect Pussy’s Meredith Graves, and Kristin Kontrol (of the Dum Dum Girls) performing the Sex Pistol’s “Anarchy in the UK.”
Following in that punk strain, Charli XCX performed a cover of the Ramones’ “Sheena Is a Punk Rocker.” This wasn’t her first nod to the New York City punk band; her Sucker single “London Queen” was supposedly inspired by the band as well. The British pop singer can also be heard covering The Stooges’ “No Fun” for HBO’s Vinyl, which you can listen to here. Watch her Ramones cover below.
