Can Frozen 2 be Disney’s first animated film release to feature a prominent character who also happens to be gay? Some fans of the franchise want to answer that question with a resounding ‘Yes,’ as a campaign is picking up some Internet steam to give Elsa a girlfriend in the upcoming sequel.
A Change.org petition has existed since last year, but recently, the hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend has trended on Twitter. Read some of the best arguments below:

In the original Frozen, Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel) is not given a love interest, and many have interpreted the Oscar-winning song “Let It Go” as a coming-out of sorts for the character. Frozen bucked the traditional Disney trend by focusing on the love between two sisters instead of a romantic relationship.
Frozen 2 does not yet have a release date, but it seems as though the main plot is already set in stone. “They’ve just written it and they’re still doing tweaks, but I think we should be recording this month,” Kristen Bell, who voices Elsa’s sister Anna, told Collider in March.
