Twenty years after its release, Space Jam will become the film franchise it was always intended to become—a sequel is in the works. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cleveland Cavaliers basketball icon LeBron James will officially star in the upcoming flick. He's totally this generation's Michael Jordan, after all...and remember his acting gift in Amy Schumer's hilarious comedy Trainwreck? We're in for a real treat.

Last summer, we heard rumors of the upcoming sequel, it's so great to finally know it's reality.

THR also notes that Justin Lin, mastermind behind such mega-blockbusters Fast 6 and the upcoming Star Trek Beyond, is in talks with Warner Bros. to direct the flick. Andrew Dodge (Bad Words, O' Lucky Day) is co-writing the script with Lin and Alfredo Botello.

The original Space Jam, a live action/animation hybrid released in 1996, earned $230.4 million worldwide. Who knows what kind of big bucks a modern iteration could pull in!
