The History channel’s remake of the Roots series premieres today (May 30) and there is already at least one irritated critic.

Snoop Dogg, in a video shared on Instagram, states his indignation with the Roots revival series along with other TV shows and films within that historical genre. Specifically naming the Steve McQueen-directed film 12 Years a Slave, Snoop takes issue with those TV shows and films that depict slavery in America. “I don't understand America, they just wanna keep showing the abuse that we took hundreds and hundreds of years ago, but guess what? We're taking the same abuse,” he explains.

Snoop then advises his fans to “fuck them television shows,” calling on listeners to “create our own shit based on today, how we live and how we inspire people today.”

The original Roots series aired in 1977, based on Alex Haley’s 1976 novel. The History channel remake will be a four-part, eight-hour series that features a cast that includes T.I., among others.
