Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has confirmed that he’ll star as Clark “Doc” Savage, a one-of-a-kind superhero, in a new comic book adaptation from director Shane Black (Iron Man 3, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang).

Savage is a character that, as Johnson notes in a celebratory Instagram post, is believed to be an inspiration for Superman, after launching in 1933 and being billed as ‘The Man of Bronze.’ The Rock writes that he was attracted to the character because he’s essentially Superman with a lot of strange:

Doc was physically and mentally trained from birth by his father and a team of scientists to become the perfect human specimen with a genius level intellect. His heightened senses are beyond comprehension. He can even identify a women's perfume from half a mile away. He is literally the master of everything.

But here's the #1 reason I'm excited to become Doc Savage.. HE'S A F*CKING HILARIOUS WEIRDO!

Confidently, yet innocently he has zero social graces whatsoever due to his upbringing so every interaction he has with someone is direct, odd, often uncomfortable and amazingly hilarious.

Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry have signed on to write the project, which was originally announced back in 2013. No word on a release date, but Johnson’s note that the team got to “chop up creative” over the weekend suggests that the script is not finished.
