We're almost at the 20-year mark since Danny Boyle's Trainspotting hit theaters, and on Monday (May 16) fans are getting an early anniversary present. The long-ballyhooed sequel, which it seems is seriously called T2 (hold the Judgment Day) has shared its first teaser...on its first day of filming.

So we've got a concrete answer for why this thing doesn't have any new footage, but the solace comes in the form of confirmation that Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremmer, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle are all returning for the roles they created as much younger gentlemen.

Along with the teaser comes the news that Jan. 27, 2017 is the official Trainspotting 2 release date.

Trainspotting 2—er, T2?—is again a collaboration between director Danny Boyle (who's since been nominated for three Oscars and won one, for 2008's Slumdog Millionaire) and screenwriter John Hodge. They last teamed on 2013's Trance. T2 is an adaptation of novelist Irvine Welsh's Trainspotting sequel, Porno.
