WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA - SEPTEMBER 18: (L-R) Musicians Tom Hamilton, Brad Whitford, Joe Perry, Steven Tyler and Joey Kramer of Ae

On Tuesday, Steven Tyler phoned into The Howard Stern Show to promote his solo country album. The call took an unlikely turn when he confirmed that Aerosmith was planning a farewell tour next year.

On the sound bite Tyler said, "I love this band, I really do, and I want to squash every thought that anybody might have about this … We're doing a farewell tour, but only because it's time. We've never done that.” Leaving an almost speechless Stern.

Rumors of a possible break-up for Aerosmith have been circling around since talk of a new singer was brought up – although lead guitarist Joe Perry denied this. It definitely seems there’s further indication that the end is near.

Of course, there is a possibility that this could be a never-ending farewell, like so many other rock bands (such as The Who and Kiss). When asked how long they would tour with this farewell tour, Tyler jokingly replied, “Probably forever.”
