Dozens of Broadway stars recently came together to record their cover of Hal David and Burt Bacharach's 1965 song "What the World Needs Now Is Love." The track was created to benefit the victims of the Orlando shooting. Last night they performed their special tribute on NBC's new variety show Maya & Marty.
Theater personalities like Sean Hayes, Megan Hilty, Andrea Martin, Rosie Perez, Roger Bart, Michael Cerveris, Victor Garber and Marissa Jaret Winokur, as well as the sketch comedy's co-hosts Maya Rudolph, Martin Short and Kenan Thompson came together to sing the moving ballad.
All proceeds from Broadway for Orlando's "What the World Needs Now Is Love" cover will go towards the LGBT Community Center of Central Florida. The song can be purchased on iTunes and BroadwayRecords.com.
On the pop end, Christina Aguilera released her benefit song "Change" last week. 100 percent of proceeds from its U.S. download sales will contribute to the National Compassion Fund.
