It's impossible to believe Los Angeles indie rock band GROVES would exist in the same way outside of their home on the California coast—this is sweet, self-reflexive, beach-ready music. It seems all but coincidental that the synth that drives the track we're premiering today, "Swim," sounds watery. The repetitive chorus crashes like ocean waves: "I just want to swim / I can't tell you why."

The band is currently signed to MDDN, the very company started by Benji and Joel Madden of Good Charlotte fame. While they're definitely not a pop-punk band by definition, the hooks here are pretty undeniable.

Singer Stephen Salisbury told us of the song:

"'I can't tell you why it took a life to get it right.' That line really captured the message I wanted to get across with this song. We all desire things without really knowing why. ‘Swim’ is a reminder that the simple things in life are what we cherish the most.

We wrote ‘Swim’ last Summer while us three were living together in Eagle Rock, CA. Every Monday and Tuesday we would dedicate the entire day to writing material. After the first few batches of songs were created with a heavier and darker tone, we decided to try something a bit different. That’s when ‘Swim’ was born. We mix a lot of genres and tones and go all over the place with the album we’ve made and we definitely think ‘Swim’ will stand out as one of the more feel good, summer songs you’ll hear from us.”
