The 2016 Ghostbusters reboot still remains the talk of Hollywood even after its July 15 premiere, so it comes as no surprise that a sequel is in the works. Well, according to a Sony executive at least. Rory Bruer, the president of worldwide distribution at the studio, told The Wrap:
“The ‘Ghostbusters’ world is alive and well. I expect ‘Ghostbusters’ to become an important brand and franchise. While nothing has been officially announced yet, there’s no doubt in my mind it will happen."
While it's not an official confirmation of the sequel (which could possibly star Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones once again), an affirmation coming from Sony itself is pretty close.
Ghostbusters, directed by Paul Feig, dominated the box office over the weekend by raking in $46 million. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it currently holds the title for the best opening weekend for a live-action comedy since Pitch Perfect 2.
