Halsey used to be Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, a self-described "fucked up stoner kid," who dropped out of community college and dated a heroin addict. Two years later—and thanks to some viral videos and a real penchant for alluring pop music—she's now a jet-setting performer. But she's still struggling to escape the demons of her past.

In a wide ranging profile published today in Rolling Stone, Halsey opens up about a number of things, including a heartbreaking miscarriage.

In the piece, the Badlands singer recalls the surge of anxiety she experienced after realizing she was pregnant:

"What happens? Do I lose my record deal? Do I lose everything? Or do I keep [the pregnancy]? What are the fans going to think? What are the moms going to think? What is the Midwest going to think? What's fucking everyone going to think?"

Halsey's pregnancy was soon miscarried, and she recounts coping with guilt in the aftermath:

"I beat myself up for it...because I think that the reason it happened is just the lifestyle I was living. I wasn't drinking. I wasn't doing drugs. I was fucking overworked—in the hospital every couple of weeks because I was dehydrated, needing bags of IVs brought to my greenroom. I was anemic, I was fainting. My body just broke the fuck down."

After the profile went live on Thursday, Halsey has been trending nationwide on Twitter, as she receives an outpouring of support from fans, who are using the hashtag #proudofhalsey:
