Kaley Cuoco has apologized for a photo she shared over Fourth of July weekend that some are calling anti-American.

On Monday, July 4, The Big Bang Theory star reportedly shared a pic of her three dogs on Instagram that saw one of her pups sitting on the American flag that was sprawled on the ground like a blanket. She captioned the shot with, "Thank you @the_pet_handler for taking care of the squad while I'm out of town! 4th of July pups!"

The post, which as since been deleted, sparked both angry comments ("Showing disrespect for the flag, it should never touch the ground, or let your pet stand on it!" said one person, per Fox News) and sympathetic criticism ("Maybe she didn’t know that it was a real flag. After all, she is out of town," noted HuffPo).

But Cuoco deleted the photo and followed up with a photo of a red-white-and-blue heart and a lengthy apology where she emphasized, "I am a proud American in every sense of the word. I understand the American flag stands for our freedom and represents American heroes, past and present."

The actress owned up to the slip-up, adding, "I made a mistake by posting the picture that was taken of my sweet dogs posing on an American flag. I sincerely apologize to anyone that has been offended by my previous post. This is no way reflects my feelings toward what the American flag represents."
