Have you been longing for a time when, one sweet day, the joyous pairing of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan would again become reality? Today is that day.
The You've Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle duo have again teamed up for another film, Ithaca, Ryan's directorial debut. Together, they play the parents of a 14-year-old Homer who gets a job as a messager for a small company trying to stay afloat while Western Union becomes the telegraph king. All the way, World War II rages on, and things get too dark for the idealistic kid, played by Alex Neustaedter. I think Tom Hanks' character dies, so when Homer's older brother goes off to war, he's forced to take care of his lil' bro and mom.
The score is done by John Mellancamp, so that's dope. Prepare to get your Americana on when Ithaca finally gets a wide release. It premiered last year at Middleburg Film Festival.
