UPDATE (10/25): Jack O'Connell will be starring in the upcoming Alexander McQueen biopic, THR reports. The British actor previously starred in 300: Rise of an Empire, Unbroken, '71 and Money Monster. Andrew Haigh (Weekend, 45 Years) is set to direct, with Chris Urch penning the script.
The movie will look at the designer's months leading up to his historic 2009 show, which was "a stunningly beautiful re-working of his greatest designs from the past 15 years." The fashion show was dedicated to his mother.
Original Story (8/30): Fashion lovers will be excited for this announcement: Variety confirms a movie about Alexander McQueen and Isabella Blow is in the works. The project is being developed by Maven Pictures, the same production company behind the upcoming American Honey.
The fashion drama will be titled The Ripper, and will focus on the British friends' oft-tumultuous relationship. Blow is credited for discovering and being the longtime muse of McQueen, who was one of the biggest British designers in fashion history. Blow was a magazine editor who worked for publications like Tatler and London’s Sunday Times.
Gesha-Marie Bland is penning The Ripper's screenplay, but there's no word yet of who will be playing the two avant-garde icons or when the film will premiere. Both friends died by suicide, Blow at age 48 in 2008 and McQueen at age 40 in 2010.
