Bette Midler deleted an insensitive tweet about Caitlyn Jenner this weekend and is now apologizing for the transphobia.
The singer-actress had tweeted, "Now that @IAmCait has been cancelled, will she go back to being Bruce?” and, using the incorrect pronoun, “Will Kris take him back? Do I smell a re-wedding?!”
All this insinuates that transgender people transition for publicity, but instead, it's a very real part of people's lives. Midler noticed that she had struck a negative chord after tweeting, and on Sunday, she took back her words.
DEAR FRIENDS @HRC, WHOM I HAVE ALWAYS SUPPORTED. SORRY LAST TWEET OFFENDED. AN IDLE MUSING. I SEEM TO HAVE MISREAD THE TEMPER OF THE TIMES.— Bette Midler (@BetteMidler) August 21, 2016
This isn't the first time Midler has tweeted about Caitlyn Jenner. Last November, she questioned her political preferences.
