Bleach, the popular manga series written and illustrated by Tite Kubo, is getting the live-action film treatment from Shinsuke Sato. The film is slated for a 2018 opening in Japan.

Serialized since 2001, Bleach tells the story of Ichigo Kurosaki, a teenager who obtains the powers of a “Soul Reaper.” The long-running series will end with its 74th volume, coming out on Monday.

Along with the upcoming live-action film, Bleach has inspired multiple anime films, novel and video games. A Bleach anime TV series ran from 2004 to 2012 and came to Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim with an English dub.

Sōta Fukushi will star as Ichigo in the upcoming film; there’s no announced date or details of a U.S. release. Head to Anime News Network for more information.
