M.I.A.'s cleverly titled AIM album is coming in a month, and today it gets a Zayn Malik–shaped boost. According to Entertainment Weekly, the Sri Lankan "Paper Planes" rapper teamed (via WhatsApp) with the One Direction departee on the song "Freedun."

"That’s the song we mastered yesterday. We just basically did it while I was here [in India], because I’ve been here for a week and a half," M.I.A. told the magazine. "We’ve just been going back and forth on, you know, WhatsApp.”

M.I.A. was exploring songwriting for other artists before beginning work on AIM and "really wanted" to pen a solo track for Zayn. "I didn’t really approach him for my own record until later on," she told EW. "First, I thought I wanted to try writing a song for him.”

Last week we learned that AIM (due Sept. 9) will feature her ex-boyfriend Diplo. His Jack Ü bandmate Skrillex is also on the LP; check out "Go Off" here.
