Ocean’s Eight looks like it will go toe-to-toe in star power with the cast of the wildly successful Ocean’s Eleven franchise. Warner Bros. has confirmed seven of the eight actresses attached (or close to being attached) to the all-female caper due to start filming in October.
According to Deadline, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and Awkwafina have deals that are “close” for the spinoff, to be directed by Gary Ross. Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett have already been identified as potential headliners in the upcoming film.
Ross recently directed the Matthew McConaughey drama Free State of Jones and previously helmed the first Hunger Games and Seabiscuit; he wrote the Ocean’s Eight script with Olivia Milch. Steven Soderbergh, who directed all three films in the Ocean’s trilogy, will produce Ocean’s Eight.
There’s no release date set for the upcoming blockbuster, and there’s still one role in the gang to fill, if all seven actresses mentioned above sign on. Rihanna, as Deadline points out, is set to star in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets next year.
