In case you weren’t perusing the internet yesterday, it’s become abundantly clear that critics are loathing Suicide Squad, which hits theaters on Friday. The DC adaptation has earned such a terrible rating on Rotten Tomatoes that diehard fans are petitioning to shut down Rotten Tomatoes. Not a great sign!

David Ayer, who directed the Warner Bros. film, won’t stand for the criticism… or, at least, he’s not paying it any mind. Quoth Ayer on Twitter yesterday:

In case you’re wondering what the translation of Zapata’s quote is, it goes something like “I’d rather die on my feet, than live on my knees.” Many comic book fans may be championing the tweets now, but if Suicide Squad is as bad as the critics claim, they may want Ayer to rethink his die-on-my-feet strategy for the inevitable sequel.

The tweets came less than 24 hours after Ayer parroted a “Fuck Marvel!” chant at the film’s Monday premiere. He has since apologized.
