Kanye West took the 2016 MTV VMAs stage on Sunday night to debut his new "Fade" video—but he let us know he wanted to have a talk first. The speech, like his 2015 Video Vanguard acceptance, was far-ranging (Jobs = West, systemic poverty's roots), but you know it featured the token reiteration of the fact that Kanye did call Taylor Swift to approve that infamous "I think me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous" line we've been talking about for more than six months now.
In the course of referencing the fake-nude-Taylor-containing "Famous" video—which lost Best Male Video tonight but is still up for Video of the Year—Yeezy also directly shouted out some of the vid's other nude, snoozing "co-stars." Answering to critics who asked how he dared put folks like Anna Wintour and Donald Trump in a bed together, 'Ye said, "I mean, like, I put Ray J in there, bruh. This is fame, bruh. Like..."
Kanye immediately went on to shout out his own ex-girlfriend, Amber Rose, with a simple, "I see you Amber." She smiled and shrugged. "My wife is a G, not a lot of people's wives would let 'em say that right there," Kanye informed us after.
Elsewhere, he noted that his artistry often finds him sitting down with "rich, older people...a.k.a. white." He also nodded to his “idol” Puff Daddy and “the future,” Chance the Rapper. And if "Famous" loses to Beyoncé for VMA Video of the Year? "I can't be mad—I'm always wishing for Beyoncé to win, so." Drake, Justin Bieber and Adele are also in competition.
