Bruce Springsteen has been making the rounds on his book tour for Born to Run, and many adults have been playing hooky for a chance to get a picture with the E Street rocker.

The Boss has hit up New York and his beloved New Jersey, and in Philadelphia on Thursday, a student skipped school to see him.

The fifth grader brought a note for Bruce to sign to excuse his absence. Father Mike told

“My son said, ‘Bruce, would you sign my absence note?’ [Springsteen] lit up. He was affectionate toward Michael as soon as he saw him. He said, ‘I have to read it first, that’s how I got in trouble with my first contract.’ He said, ‘I hope you don’t get in trouble.’ My son was very starstruck — it was a very cool experience.”
