Fences, the Seattle indie project of singer-songwriter Chris Mansfield, is following up their breakout 2014 album Lesser Oceans with a daring new six-song collection. Listen to Fences’ To The Tall Trembling Trees EP, out officially on Friday but premiering exclusively on Fuse below:
Mansfield and co. are best known for “Arrows,” their collaboration with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis that highlighted Lesser Oceans. That song introduced Fences to the world, and to follow it up, Mansfield recorded the new EP in his Brooklyn apartment over the course of just three days.
“To The Tall Trembling Trees is a flowery metaphor but it also very literal for me,” says Mansfield. “It's a gift to the nervous and the majestic. People I have met, am related to, or even something inside myself. I'm admittedly channeling Whitman but with less bravery.
“The recording process was extremely fast in contrast to my previous work,” he continues. “I don't feel that I needed more time. Sometimes time is just exactly that. If the music is there it's there by the time you turn the lights on in the studio. I'm very proud of it and it and I hope you all love it.”
The new EP is out on Votiv on Friday (Sept. 9). Watch Macklemore and Ryan Lewis talk to Fuse backstage at Bonnaroo below:
