It's starting to feel hard to keep track of all the Tupac and Notorious B.I.G. movies, but here's one that'll definitely beep its way onto the radar: Johnny Depp is going to play a detective who investigated the rappers' deaths.

Screen Daily reports that Depp has joined Labyrinth, an indie flick from The Lincoln Lawyer/The Infiltrator director Brad Furman. The three-time Oscar nominee will play Russell Poole, who, in the late '90s, "encountered endless dead ends, yet his dogged legwork uncovered corruption in the LAPD that rocked the institution to its core."

Depp's recent work has included Black Mass, Alice Through the Looking Glass and Mortdecai. In May we learned of his divorce from Amber Heard, allegedly stemming from Depp being physically abusive.

Production on Labyrinth will start in 2017. While you wait, watch the first teaser trailer for the Tupac biopic All Eyez on Me.
