Tony Marrero, a survivor of the June shooting that claimed the lives of 49 at the Orlando LGBT club Pulse, got to meet one of his idols today. After speaking with Ellen DeGeneres about the deep meaning the Katy Perry song "Rise" now holds for him, Marrero was surprised to find KP herself walking in.

"I just wanna say thank you for everything you do," Marrero said after he and Perry had collected their tearful selves. "Your lyrics to that song helped me from the day that I was in the hospital all the way to now. You're amazing."

Perry, gracious and kind as a superstar could possibly be, wrapped the visit by saying, "I heard that you wanna go to film school, so I personally wanna pay for your first year at film school." Marrero burst back into tears and went in for another hug.

On Tuesday, the last injured survivor from the Pulse shooting left the hospital. "The medical center treated 35 patients from the shooting," CNN reported, "and surgeons performed 76 operations on the victims, Orlando Health said."
