We're celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month with Future Hispanic History Month, highlighting rising stars who are creating history before our very eyes. Today we salute Selena Gomez, one of the biggest pop stars on the planet and a role model to those who want to conquer the world on their own terms.

This is because the 24-year-old Gomez is more than just her pop hits—although those hits have been ubiquitous, and have yielded multiple arena tours and millions of albums sold. The former Disney Channel star has also forged an impressive film career, from Spring Breakers to Hotel Transylvania, become a must-have brand partner, from Pantene to Coca-Cola, as well as an inspiring philanthropist, from UNICEF to youth voter outreach.

Gomez is one of the most-followed artists in the world (no one tops her 101 million Instagram followers), and with good reason: She’s down-to-earth, funny, charismatic and a source of motivation for nonwhite talents looking to break big. Selena Gomez refuses to compromise her goals and will never stop showering her young supporters with love and positivity; when it comes to National Hispanic Heritage Month, she’ll be a source of pride for years to come.
