Update (11/18): The news is official: John Wick director David Leitch will take over for Tim Miller on the Ryan Reynolds–starring Deadpool 2.
Original story (10/28): Deadpool 2 may have a new director...and it's not Quentin Tarantino. According to Variety, 20th Century Fox is eyeing David Leitch to helm the film just days after Tim Miller dropped out. Miller, who directed the first movie, reportedly had creative differences with star Ryan Reynolds.
Leitch is known for directing 2014's neo-noir thriller John Wick, but he also did stunt work in a handful of movie favorites like Fight Club, Ocean's Eleven, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, V For Vendetta and The Hangover. Prior to the directorial role for Deadpool's sequel, Fox was looking at him for an X-Force movie adaptation.
The announcement comes after Quentin Tarantino fans created a Change.org petition for the director to take on Deadpool 2. It reached 15,549 signatures out of the 25K goal. As of now Reynolds is the only actor from the original cast set for the sequel.
