With every B1A4 release, it feels like the group crafts a new single that sees them exploring new territory but also is specifically catered to their strengths. After more than a year away from the K-pop scene, the group returns with a stirring new single that sees them blending a slew of different genres and sentiments.
"A Lie" opens with a beat-driven, rock-pop sound a la Coldplay with a high tempo that seems like it'll eventually transform into a dance cut. Soon enough, the chorus hits to slow down the tempo as dreamy strings, trappy snares and hip-hop chants are all brought into the ambitious mix. The new single still has the boy-band charm and emotion B1A4 always brought to past singles, but their latest feels like a deliberate move to showcase more complex arrangement and tackle more styles.
The gorgeous music video shows the guys at their most mature and lovelorn yet as the viewer sees the members adorably hanging out and getting cozy with a female lead, and later lamenting over her when she dashes away. The visual fits nicely with the song's lyrics as the guys call deem their seemingly ambivalent feelings about a relationship ending as "A Lie."
The single leads off B1A4's third full-length album Good Timing that includes 12 new tracks. "A Lie" was composed and co-written by B1A4 member Jinyoung, who contributes to a majority of the tracks on the new LP while CNU and Baro also snag quite a few credits in the LP too.
