Last year, the Italian media reported that the Disney animated film Moana would change its international title to Oceania to avoid confusion with Italy's late, famed porn actress Moana Pozzi, who was also a political activist. And now, with more steam added to the reports, it may prove to be true.

It's common practice for studios to alter international titles to better market their films, and in Italy, the movie will go as Oceania, after the area where the story takes place. Moana's title character will now be called Vaiana, and in some countries, the movie itself will also go by Vaiana, according to Telegraph UK.

After American site Cartoon Brew tweeted about the theory, an Italian film blogger contacted them and explained that the directors of the movie confirmed that the porn star consideration was true at a French film festival.

Make of that what you will.

Disney Spain tweeted that the name "Moana" is copyrighted in Spain and other European countries, hence the name change. Some sites report that Moana is the name of a French perfume, and in Germany, it's copyrighted by a media company.
