The fateful relationship between Gilmore Girls characters Luke and Lorelai is one of the strong points of the beloved show, but things could've been a lot different if the creator stuck to her initial plan. Amy Sherman-Palladino revealed to Entertainment Weekly that Luke was actually supposed to be a woman named Daisy!

“Luke was originally a female character,” the GG creator said. “[The network] came to me and said we need another guy, so I literally just took a character and changed the name, didn’t even change any of the dialogue because I’m that lazy.”

She continues, “We did a few shows and they just had chemistry. It was the episode where they were in the market and Lorelai’s spying on Dean. Luke was there and they had this scene that didn’t mean anything.”

Fans will get to see how their relationship plays out when Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life on Netflix on Nov. 25.
