Is art(pop) about to imitate life?
Rumors abound that Lady Gaga will play Donatella Versace in the upcoming Versace/Cunanan: American Crime Story. Us Weekly cites an exclusive Gaga source saying the singer, who once recorded an EDM ode to the fashion designer on Artpop, has booked the role in the upcoming FX series.
As previously announced, the third American Crime Story installment will focus on the murder of Donatella's brother, Gianni Versace, at his Miami Beach home by serial killer Andrew Cunanan in 1997. The series is set to begin filming in early 2017, though no premiere for this or the upcoming second iteration (focused around Hurricane Katrina) have been announced.
American Crime Story's executive producer Ryan Murphy hinted that Gaga could be involved last month during a panel at Entertainment Weekly's PopFest. When a moderator suggested that Lady Gaga could be "the perfect Donatella," Murphy reportedly coyly replied, "Ya think?"
Of course, Gaga has already worked closely with Murphy as the star of American Horror Story: Hotel, and making appearances on the current Roanoake season. Plus, Gaga is friends with Donatella and had the singer her star in a 2014 Versace campaign. Let's reminisce how that friendship was documented via "Donatella" below:
