When Mel B, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell announced they were celebrating the Spice Girls' 20th anniversary by regrouping as the splinter trio Spice Girls - GEM, many wondered if the ladies could recreate the magic of their early days without original members Victoria Beckham and Mel C.

We now have the first taste of what to expect thanks to a newly leaked GEM track, "Song for Her." The bubbly cut brings trendy, electro-pop beats to back the ladies empowering-yet-slightly-cheesy message ("This is a song for her / You know you light it up / 'Cause you know who you are / Stand up, stand up!") delivered over punchy synthesizers. Listen to a fan account's upload above.

Now, this isn't another "Wannabe," but that isn't what Spice Girls - GEM need to create. Like Fuse said earlier this year when Spice Girls - GEM was revealed, this trio needs to bring something new to the table instead of trying to simply bring the Spice Girls brand into 2016. The new sound indicates that they're playing around with electronic music elements, so maybe there's a banging dance song they can create. We'd be so here for that.

Recording new material is also in line with Victoria Beckham's wishes for the group, with the singer/fashion designer telling the Sunday Times, "I do think they should sing new material, though, because what we did as the Spice Girls was so special. If they sang Spice Girls songs, I think I might be a bit sad."

"Song for Her" hasn't been announced as an official single or even confirmed to be the musical direction of Spice Girls - GEM, but it does potentially hint where things could be going now that Scary, Baby and Ginger don't have their Sporty and Posh Spice.
