Get ready to be transported into an alternate cosmic universe in the upcoming Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets movie, with the anticipated teaser finally released today. The film stars The Amazing Spider-Man 2's Dane DeHaan as Valerian and Suicide Squad's Cara Delevingne as Laureline, where the two try to overcome dangerous aliens throughout the galaxy. It is set to The Beatles' 1969 psychedelic song “Because.”
Rihanna, who also stars in the film, appears towards the end of the teaser as a sultry cabaret performer in the middle of the action-filled chaos. Herbie Hancock, John Goodman, Clive Owen and Ethan Hawke are a part of the star-studded cast as well. Rihanna's role was previewed during San Diego's Comic-Con back in July. “I think it’s the weirdest part in the film. Not weirdest, but most complicated. You really don’t expect it at all," director Luc Besson said about the singer.
Besson (who also helmed cult classics The Fifth Element, Léon: The Professional and Lucy) recently detailed the star's role with EW, and gave a first look at her character:
“Rihanna was my first wish. First, because of her voice and the way she smiles and looks and how she expresses herself. Second, because you know she won’t be intimidated on the set. She plays stadiums with 100,000 people. You know that girl isn’t shy about the camera and the crew and all this.”
Valerian, an adaptation of the French Valérian and Laureline comic series, will hit theaters July 21, 2017.
