Surprise: Hulu's original series The Handmaid's Tale will co-star Alexis Bledel. The news arrives a few months before the series starring/produced by Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men, Top of the Lake) hits the streaming service. The story is an adaptation of Margaret Atwood's haunting novel from 1985.
Bledel, hot off another streaming service original you might have heard of, will play Ofglen. A fellow handmaid to Moss' Offred, she "at first seems to be a strict rule follower and loyal to the regime, but turns out to be a subversive confidant of Offred's."
Those names, if you're curious, are reminders that in this dystopian future, handmaids are women forcefully designated as sexual/breeding property. Hence "Of Glen," "Of Fred." Back in December, Moss told Entertainment Weekly, in reference to Donald Trump's America, “We never wanted the show to be this relevant."
The Handmaid's Tale hits Hulu on April 26.
