UPDATE (5PM): Both *NSYNC and Lance Bass tweeted to clarify there will not be any tour or new music from the boy band in the future. Bass' interview already made that pretty clear, but fans definitely got a little too excited about the Hollywood Walk of Fame news!
We always appreciate the love and excitement from our fans unfortunately Lance’s comments to the press were taken out of context. (1 of 2)— *NSYNC (@NSYNC) February 17, 2017
When there is real news from *NSYNC you will hear it from all of us. (2 of 2)— *NSYNC (@NSYNC) February 17, 2017
Just to clarify. If people want to call the Walk Of Fame Star a "reunion" then fine, but we have no plans on making any new music or tour. 😜— Lance Bass (@LanceBass) February 17, 2017
Okay this might sound crazy, but it ain't no lie! *NSYNC will be reuniting later this year, according to Lance Bass. The group's member, who seems to be the only one feverishly holding on to the boy band dream, revealed the news to Entertainment Tonight.
"We're doing something [special], I don't know if I can announce it yet," Bass said before spilling the beans about special plans for 1998's Home for Christmas LP. "We're coming out with a really cool vinyl edition of our Christmas album because it's coming up on the 20 years of that album. And then we're going to be getting our star on the [Hollywood] Walk of Fame this year at some point."
Bass continued to explain that while it's difficult to get all the guys together, they will all be there to receive their star "hopefully maybe around Christmas time." He also says Justin Timberlake, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, JC Chasez and himself are still close pals. "I would have to shoot you if you saw the stuff we wrote to each other," Bass joked. "We bag on each other all day long. We find pictures on Instagram of us from the '90s and so we're always giving it to each other."
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Timberlake revealed the real reason he left the group. "It started as a fun snowball fight that was becoming an avalanche. And, also, I was growing out of it," he said. "I felt like I cared more about the music than some of the other people in the group. And I felt like I had other music I wanted to make and that I needed to follow my heart."
*NSYNC took an indefinite "hiatus" in 2002, where JT and JC both embarked on solo careers. The last time the group reunited was at the 2013 MTV VMAs, when they joined Timberlake onstage for his Video Vanguard performance. Last August, the crew got together for JC's 40th birthday and it was adorable.
