Ben Affleck candidly addressed his 1.36 million Facebook followers on Thursday to discuss his recent alcohol addiction rehab. "This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery," the Live by Night writer/director said of the health issue he has "dealt with in the past and will continue to confront."

Here's Affleck's full text:

"I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I've dealt with in the past and will continue to confront. I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step. I'm lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I've done the work I set out to do. This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery."

One source tells E! News, "He didn't want to cycle through anything he had dealt with in the past. He's moving in a healthy, balanced direction."

Last week People magazine ran a report that Affleck and Jennifer Garner had halted their divorce proceedings in an effort to reconcile. The couple began dating in 2004, announced their divorce in mid-2015, and have three children, ages 5-11.

Affleck recently exited The Batman's directorial gig, though he's still set to star in both that one and Justice League. There's also been word that he's looking to stop playing the Dark Knight ASAP.
