The first official trailer for The Mist, Spike's TV adaptation of Stephen King's classic novella, is finally here—and it is absolutely terrifying. Watch above as the characters have to come face-to-face with the fears (both inner demons and the mysterious creatures in the fog) haunting their lives.

The 10-episode series follows residents in Bridgton, Maine as their lives become threatened by the supernatural beings found in the mist that swallows up their entire town. The trailer has undertones of religion, demonic spirits and a touch of erotica. “I wanted to be respectful to the source material, but my feeling was there was already a great adaptation out there by Frank Darabont,” show creator Christian Torpe said in reference to the 2007 movie. “The novella is 200 pages and one location, and we needed to change that to make an ongoing series. But we wanted to remain faithful to the heart of the story."

The Mist stars Morgan Spector, Alyssa Sutherland, Gus Birney, Danica Curcic, Okezie Morro, Luke Cosgrove, Darren Pettie, Russell Posner, Dan Butler, Isiah Washington, Jr. and Frances Conroy. Look out for its premiere Thursday, June 22 at 10 PM on Spike. The series is the latest adaptation of a Stephen King novel, with films based on It (out Sept. 8) and The Dark Tower (Aug. 4) on the horizon.
