Paramore continue to give tastes of their anticipated fifth album After Laughter with the release of new track, simply titled "Told You So." It premiered on Beats 1 Radio today along with a new video.
The song's bright production will have your feet tapping in six seconds or less, with Hayley Williams singing "I hate to say that I told you so / But they love to say they told me so" on the minimal chorus. It follows the '80s-leaning "Hard Times" lead single that was released last month. Williams described "Told You So" to Zane Lowe:
“Had we not been through everything we’ve been through until this point, we wouldn’t be sitting here and we wouldn’t be enjoying it the way that we do and we wouldn’t have the deep kind of very honest friendships that we do now that feel life-giving. So that’s kinda where the song started, and then it did become about this looking at my life.”
In a recent New York Times interview, the band explained they've "dipped into cleaner, more rhythmic and synth-kissed textures of the ’70s and ’80s, owing to recent obsessions with Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club, Cyndi Lauper and Blondie" for the new album.
Look out for After Laughter, the follow-up to 2013's Paramore, on May 12. The album marks the return of drummer Zac Farro. Next up, go back in time (2007 to be exact) where a teenage Hayley Williams talks early Warped Tour days and her love for *NSYNC:
